The November update

Join us as we keep you in the loop with how we are strengthening, empowering and protecting children in need.

The focus of this month's update is the work we do in the area of Education! We believe that no education is lost and all the things that we have the opportunity to learn have the power to change our futures in regards to our capacity and understanding. So please enjoy reading about how we are helping to support the establishment of worthwhile knowledge in the lives of the children and families we work with!

New education project in slum communities

In the past few months we have undertaken a new project to provide education to children living in slum communities. With our dedicated team of 5 we are providing informal education to children in 7 different slum communities. The children receive education twice a week, along with a healthy meal in order to support their need for increased nutrition. Our long term goal is to work to see these children accessing the local government schools with our continued support as a tuition provider in the future. We will be updating you all on this project with more detail in the new year!

Tenth class pass

These three in our care have all graduated with their 10th Class Certificates and currently are enrolled in Class 11. Alongside that they are studying in their chosen Vocational Training Courses!

Computer course success

Not only in this year has this beautiful girl successfully passed 12th Class, but she also, just this week, received top marks for her Basic Computer Course run by a local Training Institute. We wish her all the best in her studies as we continue to support her as she applies herself to her Hotel Management Course specialising in Front Desk.

Teachers’ day celebrations

The Children in our Care prepared an amazing evening of drama, dance, song, games and meaningful tributes to all those that provide education for them. From dance to tution teachers, daily nurturers to social workers, they made each feel appreciated for their level of input into their futures.

Literacy for women

Beyond the needs of Children in residential care, we value the strengthening of women who are the primary caregivers for children in the community. We love to be able to support the mothers of our community to be strengthened and empowered through Literacy Classes.

Community computer classes

We recently appointed a local computer master to run twice weekly official computer classes in our local community. Each successful participant will receive a government approved certificate to add to their resumes in the future.

Staff training

We cannot forget the needs of our team to constantly have their skills upgraded and knowledge expanded and we took time in this last quarter to learn greater skills in responding to children in need by recognising abuse and appropriate responses to each individual child.
